A New University in Kampala

Academic Programs starting in October 2010
Victoria University is a brand new international university in the process of being established in the heart of Kampala City - Uganda. The state of the art campus is to be located at Plot 54A, Kira Road (close to British High Commission). Victoria University will deliver internationally recognised and accredited degrees to students from Uganda, Central & Sub Saharan Africa.
The University recently received a letter of interim approval for academic license from the National Council of Higher Education (NCHE) in Uganda. Victoria University is also backed by the Ugandan Investment Authority (UIA) who will provide an investment license to offer educational services at university level.
Victoria University is a highly prioritised initiative of Edulink Holdings Limited - Kampala. The company is backed by a group of international investors and education managers from the UK, UAE and Uganda. The company is poised to invest US$ 20 Million in the next 3 years to build a state of art campus infrastructure. The university campus will be fully operational and start its programmes by September 2010.
Edulink is a well established global education company with a sound track record and history in establishing and running a chain of successful institutions of higher learning in the UAE ( notably Middlesex University Dubai ) and are now targeting to build educational routes into Africa beginning with Uganda.
Victoria University is represented by a Board of Trustees who will effectively manage the university assets and resources. The University Management Council will be the supreme organ responsible for the administration of the University, while the Senate will organise, control and direct all academic matters such as teaching, research, academic standards and their assessments.
The newly born university will adopt a system approach in an effort to revitalize education in Uganda and hence Africa. Victoria University will focus primarily on policies, education programmes and materials, educational research and teacher training. The university will commit to Quality which will encompass a range of elements and improve the level of student achievement, qualification of staff, standards of faculty and equipment and effectively implement teaching, planning and administrative processes.
The capacity of innovation is essential to revitalize education in Sub Saharan Africa thus Victoria University is committed to bring strong participation of a range of British universities and higher education teacher development partners, who will play a key role in fostering education and research so that best practices can be produced and better shared, while also fighting for an African-based innovative approach to training based on a better balance between academic and professional training.
Victoria University will offer a wide range of programmes at foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Science & Engineering, Media & Arts, Business & Management, Allied and Health Sciences, Oil & Gas, Energy & Water Management, Agriculture. Victoria University will also introduce vocational training CPD courses to create highly skilled labour. The university business plan incorporates all elements that links education with industry at the national level and will create a pool of talent and build the knowledge and human capital for both public and private sectors.
The 10.5 acre plot in Kansanga boasts of an optimised state of art teaching facility which will include classrooms, Hi-tech laboratories, staff and student areas a huge library with access to books & online materials. The campus will also provide designate areas for food court, shopping, medical clinic and other related support services. The campus currently hosts two large indoor auditoriums with a seating capacity of 1500 and 850 respectively.
When fully operational, Victoria University will cater to 15000 students.
Whilst education and research are the core objectives of the university Vision and Mission, the university will also focus and integrate sporting and cultural activities relevant to the region. The university has also designated play and cultural areas within the current facility as a commitment towards achieving this goal.
Victoria University is committed to create a new breed of entrepreneurs in every field to enable contribute to the national economies of Africa.
Victoria University will start to market its courses in the first quarter of 2010 and admit students to its programmes soon after.
