Edulink brings top-ranked University of Pune to Ras Al Khaimah Partnership paves way for globally-recognized Degree programs
University of Pune (UoP), one of India’s top-ranked state universities, is in the process of setting up a campus in Ras Al Khaimah and plans to begin offering Indian accredited degree programmes in 2009.

The plan was revealed by Edulink Consultants, a Dubai-based education consultancy firm that facilitated the setup of the globally-recognized Indian higher education institution in RAK.

Edulink builds strategic partnerships with academic institutions from all over the world to help them establish their programmes and ethos alongside the values of the Arab region. Since its establishment, Edulink has been instrumental in setting up reputed academic institutions in the country that have provided quality education and training to both residents and expatriates based in the country, the most notable being the establishment of Middlesex University Dubai campus in 2005, through their sister concern Middlesex Associates FZ LLC.

“University of Pune’s entry into the UAE, specifically in Ras Al Khaimah will help boost the education sector in the country, and ultimately the economy by producing competent and skilled individuals,” said Misho Ravic, CEO, Edulink. “We will continue to explore other partnerships that will help build the capital of the nation as it pursues further its aspirations to become one of the world’s leading economies.”

UoP has been awarded five star rating, the highest grade by the independent National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of India; and was also honoured by the University Grants Commission (UGC) as a University with Potential for Excellence. UoP currently has around 650,000 students studying on its parent campus and affiliated colleges. It plans to offer undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate courses, and is currently accepting applications and registrations in time for the opening on March 2009 for post-graduate level, and in September later this year for undergraduate and other post-graduate courses.

As a result of its high academic standards and accomplishments, UoP has attracted some of the best and brightest students from India, and has the highest number of international students among higher education institutions in the country.

“Courses offered by the UoP will be very competitive, in terms of content, delivery, accreditation and value. Plus, special arrangements will be made for students from other Emirates” Misho added.

To help set up its operations in the UAE, University of Pune chose Edulink for its sterling reputation in assisting academic institutions to successfully set up their operations in the country, and helping translate their aims, structures and research methods in an increasingly multicultural society.

Dr Narendra Jadhav, Vice Chancellor, University of Pune, says this is another milestone for the institution. “This will be the first State University to leave the shores of India. University of Pune is well known both in India and globally. The University will bring a distinct advantage with its traditions of excellence. This will also be first time where the university will be directly teaching all programs at the branch campus.”

UoP chose Ras Al Khaimah to be the location of its first campus outside of India because of it provides the ideal setting for the pursuit of academic excellence. In addition, HH Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah has been very supportive of this initiative, a clear indication of the value HH puts on premium education as a means to boost the growth of the emirate. It was under his patronage that this project was initiated, and continues to progress as a result of HH’s all-out support.

The noted academician and economist also believes that the establishment of UoP will be a boon for the many students all over the region looking for high quality education, but closer to home. “Large number of foreign students will also benefit from the announcement as this will ease their worries of having to make a trip to India or other reputable higher academic institutions in the West to obtain a truly globally-recognized education.”

HH Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, added “We are pleased to welcome the UoP to Ras al Khaimah. This marks an important step towards the realization of our vision for Ras Al Khaimah to become a magnet for Higher Education institutions from across the world. UoP will offer new and exciting academic opportunities for both residents of the UAE and overseas students.
